Dr Wise not only treats adults but is also a pediatric ophthalmologist. In fact, he is the only pediatric ophthalmologist who practices in Atlantic County. Eye screenings should be a part of every child’s medical routine check-ups.
Good vision is essential to a child’s development academically, socially, and physical development. The earlier vision problems are diagnosed, the better the outcome will be.
Screenings should be done at birth and then again between 6-12 months old. A pediatric ophthalmologist should perform a comprehensive exam if a baby is born premature, has a high risk of medical complications, or has a strong family history of serious vision disorders.
During the preschool and elementary school years, children should continue to have routine eye exams to check the child’s vision and visual acuity. Near-sightedness is the most common issue in school age children and can be corrected with eye glasses.
